The featured section gets a lot less views than up and coming. The featured section is overrated. It doesn't improve your scores, it doesn't really get you many views, it doesn't get you any more respect in the community. Up and coming on the other hand shows you made a site that the majority enjoy, it's a milestone that a site makes, its more than just ratings. Why so serious?

It seems like anymore it takes a fluke to get on U&C. You have to luck out that you don't get at least 2 downvotes, or you're screwed because there aren't enough voters around anymore to make up for that. You get two 1 stars, a couple other votes, and you're off recently created and have such a low score you won't ever show up on U&C. The gimmick downvoters were cute maybe a year ago, because there were enough regular voters to even it out.

Yeah, it's getting harder and harder to make up and coming these days, but I sitll think it is a measure of quality for the most part. The main problem is that there are more and more good ytmnds that fall through the cracks too, because there aren't enough voters (that aren't downvoting gimmicks) like you said. The site I released a couple days ago got 30 votes in an hour, and this is while having exposure on recently created, and featured. That's ridiculous. I can't imagine how everyone else must feel.

A couple of months ago I would have agreed with you on the part where featured sites get two thousand more views than non-featured. It's more like 500 more now. I think most users are catching on to the fact that majority of featured sites are spam, or half-assed attempts.

Oh, I see what you did there. I'm hoping that wasn't directed at me lol. If having a strong eagerness to see how well most voters perceive my sites is counter-productive towards the well being of ytmnd, then I am guilty of it. I look at recently created every once in a while, but I don't vote as much as I should, usually because most of them suck and I think that downvoting them is a waste of my time (unless they reach up and coming).

Sites stay on U&C for too long that new sites don't have a chance to show up. The voter sample size is too small to give an accurate rating. Sites are on Top Viewed for days on end because they've been on U&C for that long. Once you get on that list by a fluke of no downvotes, you won't ever slip off of it, because no one views any sites beyond those already on that list. But that's just my opinion.

I miss 2006. Sites were on up and coming for 4 hours then they dropped off. New fresh material was circulated frequently. 300 votes used to be just enough to keep sites on up and coming long enough for the majority to watch and enjoy it. Now the 350 vote limit is stagnating the front page. There just aren't enough voters anymore. The limit needs to be proportionate to the amount of voter activity.

The whole point of the Olympics is to put politics aside and remind us that we all live on the same planet. The only reason people try to involve politics is because it's easier to make a statement while everyone's watching. Should these injustices be ignored? Absolutely not, but the Olympic GAMES are not a political forum. It's about world culture, not world government. Will we eventually learn to solve all of our problems by holding cyborg fighting tournaments? We can only hope.
