The transatlantic slave trade dehumanized slaves entirely. Africa was a much different system where slaves were treated more like servants of the family (serving pillowy mounds of mashed potatoes) than pieces of sh*t whose limbs were cut off when they were disobedient by horrible Portugese slave masters. Not saying the domestic slave trade wasn't sh*tty, but the transatlantic was far worse. Yes they were rounded up, if you'd like the history lesson, I can give it to you. til then, learn yer sh*t.
No, you retard. Africans captures and shipped other Africans to the plantations here. That was my (very correct) point, not that the slave trade was horrible there or here or anywhere. Europeans relied on middlemen to get slaves, African ones, so part of the blame lie on those warlords themselves (except in rare cases such as the Barbary Pirates) . I assure you that your history lessons in any area are unnecessary, senior comma splice.
And for the record, I would like to say that yes, slavery was uncool, and we higher-thinking Southerners are very ashamed of how our countrymen have acted since then (and during, but you can't pigeonhole the South alone as being real dicks about it until after slavery was abolished. Everybody was kind of a dick during.)
Yeah but there's a hell of a lot more to those warlords. In African history there was never really a great conqueror, nor did they ever have large political systems like a state, which is significantly tied to their general idea of property. It was common for European slave traders to have tribes intentionally wage war with each other. Prisoners of war became slaves, and weapons were traded to the tribes in exchange for those slaves. In their minds Africans weren't selling their neighbors, they were selling enemy soldiers from wars. These wars were purposely instigated, enflamed, and protracted by the larger European powers that were making their way through the entire continent causing political instability for their own personal gain. Look at Portuguese Angola. The slave trade wasn’t going into Africa and just kidnapping, nor was it just crazy warlords waging war for simple financial gain. It was a significantly WORSE system where European powers played puppeteer and all Africans were exploited. They
yeah but the whole us, minus the South, has since gotten over it, which is why the South is the worser. You can argue the "waging war" all day, but the point still stands that their own people sold them into slavery. WARlords. You can "encourage" two guys to fight all day, but it takes their own initiative to actually do so. WIth club sauce.
