I've always imagined a human barrel roll being more of someone jumping and spinning on the x axis (x being the direction if your arms were held straight out) Am I making sense? So if someone where to dive forward, tuck their arms at their sides and spin before hitting the ground, it'd be a barrel roll. Otherwise, somersault.
