Your logic is flawed and your ideals are useless. You are only looking at such a small portion of websites you mentioned you make yourself look stupid. For instance, I bet youtube makes much less than it costs to host (like you said) but Google didn't buy it as a cash cow, them bought it to have a huge chunk of the internet video market, think of it as an investment. Maybe your ideas would work out better if you stopped acting like you are some sort of cultured snob who is better than all of his visitors to his website. Even if what I just said was true, no one would like to admit it, which is why exposing the user base to "culture" will never work if you go about shoving it down their throats as some sort of proprietary bullsh*t about what "good culture" actually is.
