theres nothing wrong with religion, its there for our emotional stability, thats why humans do it so often. the problem comes when people take it way too seariously and think that theirs is the only way. this and the fact that political leaders have allways used it to gain power. just look at byzantine emperors, a soldier in their army would take an oath identifying the emperor as God's representative on earth.
When people rely on "higher beings" to give them guidance or comfort, it reduces one's own ablility to explore their conscious and as a whole it reduces human being's mental evolution---a large reason why we may go extinct. So yes, there is plenty wrong with forcing untruths onto children or the vulnerable and claming they are facts.
I find the same problem myself. even as a wiccan, I find I'm still hard wired to like Jesus. I've often thought of, if I should have children, how I should raise them. I suppose that if I told them what I beleive, and said that these are only my beliefs, and that I may very well be wrong about the whole thing that they might still retain the ability to think for themeselves. I think aristotle said that the best thing a person can do is to question everything.
