NARV is a term (barely used anymore, btw) by people to simply describe those that only vote 1 or 5. it was coined in a time when as we all see now, scores for highest rated sites went from being around 4.1 to around 4.4-4.6 or higher. we believed the vote shift was because of this dual voting, something even I was guilty of when i started on YTMND. it was spread around simply because this type of voting is more prevalent now. i've gotten used to it by now but at the time yes, it bothered me.

ANYWAYS, over time as more people heard the term, I felt it was being misused or abused from what those of us who used the term originally meant by it. it didnt necessarily come from an elitist place (very non famous users used it a lot as well) - which is especially why i use it a whole lot less, almost not at all. if i ever do use the term its usually to piss someone off who WOULD be offended by such a label.

no mike, a NARV is not necessarily a noob. a "noob" can learn, a NARV may often be a newer user, but its not a "new" type of voting. like i said, its just more prevalent now than before. you must admit, if yu've been around a while, you KNOW that newer ytmnds get higher scores than they did a year ago, and not necessarily because of an increase in quality.
now with this, i've already said enough. the wiki article on NARV is still around for people to look at, and its still basically pointless to throw around the term anymore. I believe this NARVism exists, however its here, its made its mark and theres nothing to stop it without pissing everyone off, so I just sit back and let things be what they will... I openly think current voting standards arent as high as they used to be, however i cant stop people from voting the way they want...
one more thing: if people like zomg here dont care about how people vote - whatever. but many of us who spend time making sites, well - we all do, at least to some degree. if you spent time on a site you'd like it to be seen more than anything, and having a decent score is pretty much the only way a site can be seen.
